Some other things to consider when building an Elder-suite is the long term planning invloved. Although we can not see the future, it is important to anticipate the future needs of your elder loved one. For example, making the suite handicapped accessable in the event your loved one becomes wheelchair or bed bound. This would include creating a handicapped accessable shower & bathroom facilities complete with grab bars. Allowing doorways to be larger to accomodate a wheelchair or walker. Having additional power outlets to accommodate an electric bed, breathing machines or other monitors that may become necessary. Allowing additional space down hallways for grab bars, and space to store various equipment such as wheel chairs, walkers, bed lifts, etc. Thinking ahead one can avoid extra problems & prevent more costly expenses in the future.
